Cardiac only resuscitation (COR)

Cardiac only resuscitation (COR)

Cardiac only resuscitation (COR) is giving chest compressions alone without mouth to mouth respiration to a person in cardiac arrest. Conventional CPR (cardiopulmonry resuscitation) requires chest compression and artificial respiration in the form of mouth to mouth respiration. COR has been shown to be almost equally effective as CPR. It will possibly increase the number of individuals who are resuscitated. This is because most persons are hesitant to start CPR on an unknown individual due to the fear of transmission of infections during mouth to mouth respiration. It can also be called compression only resuscitation as only chest compressions are given and no ventilation as such. Some movement of air out and in of the airways will occur during compression and relaxation because of chest movements.
